I know this is from a year ago but just wanted to post that there is a fix for this issue and you are able to update the driver even while running windows 7. I know because I just fixed this issue today on an IBM that was upgraded to run Win7 Download the XP driver from here: Download the file, unzip it. Open up the new folder and right click on the Setup.exe.
Go to Properties and go to the Compatibility tab. In here select to ' Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Also check to Run this program as Administrator at the bottom of the window.
