Grading Final grades will be based on copy editingassignments, a copy editing exam, a personnel management essay and a finalproject. There will not be a finalexam.
Because journalism is adiscipline that lives and dies by the clock, missed deadlines will be SEVERELY penalized. Details on allassignments will be given as the semester progresses. You willalso have several homework assignments.
Copy Editing Exam – 10 percent. Personnel Management Essay – 10 percent: You will be required to write an essaydetailing how you would handle a personnel situation. Final Project – 20 percent: You will be asked to write an essaythat incorporates all aspects of the course.
Thisessay will be due on the day scheduled for the final exam, Thursday, May 9,2002, at 11 a.m. In lieu of a written final exam, wewill spend the final exam period in May discussing your essays. Quizzes: There will not be any news quizzes as in past semesters, but we willdiscuss the news (in terms of how to deal with certain events), and if I sense that students have no idea what the newsis, there will be unannounced quizzes that will count toward your finalgrade. In addition, if I sense that students are not keeping up withthe assignments or attendance is poor, unannounced quizzes will be given andthey also will count toward your final grade. Attendance: Attendance does not constitute aspecific part of your grade, but perfect attendance is required.
