So I have seen some threads hinting (I think) that there will be a new Navigation Update available now / soon for our cars. But it appears this will cost $199 (see here (D7E0C)) and can only be done by the dealer (since it is hard disk and not a CD) So my questions are: 1 - Is there really an update out? 2 - Does it really cost $199 3 - Is there anyway to do this yourself and for less (or maybe free)? - I have a 2009 335 with navigation with both US and European maps as it was a euro delivery car. Yes there is an update out 2. Fashion Solitaire. I should know the exact cost tomorrow as my car is currently sitting at the dealer getting this done 3. The dealers have a three-disc set they install and then you have to purchase an 'activation' code that they then enter to make the system usable. In order to do this ourselves, we would need both (a) that three-disc set (not available to the public) and, (b) an activation code. Presumably the activation code could be shared but you'd still have to have a dealer do it. At least for now. Yes there is an update out 2.

I'd love to know what it cost.and what really changed (if you can tell). For those of us that have it on a hard drive in the car is it updated automatically and at no cost?

That is supposed to be the case from my understanding when I bought the car.:dunno: Software updates, if they are required to fix a usability complaint, are installed free of charge as a part of the warranty. Map updates are not free and require the purchase of an activation code direct from the dealer. Now it's possible that if you have a major failure of an iDrive component and they have to replace the whole thing (or at least the hard drive), you might get a map upgrade for free since you'll get whatever the latest map version is on the new drive. But absent that, we'll have to pay for map updates just like everyone else. I am sorry but you have not had any updates to the software on your car without taking the car in.
That's not possible. You're talking about software that is burned into the memory on your car. Your car has no capacity to update itself, and in fact, updating is a long drawn out process that can take many hours. This is correct. I'm on day #2 of the software install and it wasn't ready at the end of business today.
Should be ready tomorrow but I'm at the NY International Auto Show tomorrow so I will be picking it up Thursday. I *do* know already that I got ISTA/P ver 37.1.0.1.
